The library welcomes Marcellus resident and author Douglas A. Anderson for a presentation on the storyline and illustrations of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. Anderson will tell how this book has been accepted and represented in various countries around the world. We will also take a look at Tolkien's life and his creation of the world of Middle-earth. Elisabeth Wenger and Remi Lavergne will describe their work as ship's carpenter and captain on a sailing ship, a replica of the ships used for trade and exploration before steam engines were invented. Learn how the ship's crew use old skills and a sextant as they transport cargo - cacao, coffee and rum - across the Atlantic. Call the library to RSVP.
