This series: “Getting Started with Google Suite” will help you relax in and around your email box and online documents.

You will learn the basics of free Google products that can be used from any computer or smart phone with an internet connection. Learn how to use Gmail (email) with ease, write and edit a document, and make a simple spreadsheet.

This series runs in order of difficulty.
Class 2 and 3 require a working Gmail (email) account, Class 1 gets you signed up for a Gmail account.

Pre-registration is required to guarantee a computer for you.

Class 1 Gmail Basics
Saturday, February 7 10:30 am- 12:30 pm

The subsequent classes require a Gmail (email account). If you are unfamiliar with Gmail, or you are looking to better utilize your email, then this class is for you!

Learn how to: 

  • Set up an account, log in and out, manage basic settings
  • Set up a strong password and learn basic email security
  • Compose and send emails, add attachments, and open attachments
  • Organize your inbox
  • Manage spam, unsubscribe or block emails, and identify phishing scams
  • Manage storage space
  • Add the Gmail app to your phone
  • Add email signature or out of office replay (advanced)

By the end of this class, you will have a Gmail account that you can access from anywhere with wi-fi or cell service and have a basic understanding of how Gmail works and how to navigate around in it. We will practice sending an email to the library, and unsubscribe from a mailing list.

Class 2 Google Doc Basics
Saturday, February 14 10:30 am- 12:30 pm

Learn how to: 

  • Create and format a document: Type, change formatting like bold/italic/underline, fonts, colors, alignment, bulleted lists, and use spell check.
  • Add images to make documents engaging.
  • Navigate the menu bar
  • Share and find shared documents
  • Make comments, and make changes
  • Organize files (advanced)

By the end of this class, you will be able to create a document, change the title, and font size. You will also be able to share and receive documents. We will open a shared reading list from the library, make comments on a grocery list, and change the formatting on a basic document.

Class 3 Google Sheets Basics
Saturday, February 21 10:30 am- 12:30 pm

Learn how to: 

  • Navigate around the spreadsheet cells using the mouse and the keyboard, use the formula bar, and understand rows/columns/sheets.
  • Change the text size, column and row size
  • Use the built-in SUM function to make basic calculations (numbers, dollars, etc.)
  • How to sort rows alphabetically or by amount

By the end of this class you will be able to open a google sheet file, use the SUM function to add numbers, and be able to sort columns alphabetically. We will use the examples of: a basic budget, a reading list with authors, Christmas card mailing list.
